Angerboda
(«la-Fauteuse-de-Mal» ou Angrboda) C’est une géante de la glace qui avec l’astucieux Loki engendra trois monstres Le gigantesque loup Fenrir, le serpent de Midgard, Jormungandr et la déesse de la mort, Hel. Les Dieux les enlevèrent dans son manoir quand ils apprirent la terrible menace qu’ils représentaient. Odin bannit d’abord Hel au «monde sous les mondes» lui donnant la charge d’accueillir les morts. Il lança ensuite le serpent dans l’océan, celui-ci en brisa la glace et s’enfonça dans les profondeurs. Fenrir fut d’abord gardé à Asgard puis lié par une chaîne lorsque les Nornes prédirent qu’il tuerait Odin. D’ailleurs Odin aimait à répéter que «le loup gris observe les palais des Dieux».
